Georgia VINE Release Coverage
Georgia VINE provides custody status and notification functions through participating criminal-justice feeds. The Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council described the statewide system as offering real-time updates, online, phone, and mobile access, multilingual support, and availability around the clock. Those features make it useful for watching one active custody record.
Charlton County's official pages do not publish a public jail roster, 24-hour release list, or 72-hour release list. VINE can therefore be an important early check, but it cannot replace the sheriff's custody record. Feed coverage, update timing, and record availability can affect what appears. Call the jail when an exact local release date, time, or reason must be confirmed.
GDC state-prison custody is another state channel, yet the GDC offender search remains the source for prison facility and release-date fields. VINE can alert to a change. It does not calculate Maximum Release Date, TPM, county earned time, or parole eligibility.
Search One Charlton VINE Record
A VINE check begins with one named person rather than a countywide recent-release browse. Use the person's name or offender identifier if known. Review all matches and compare the available status and location. A common name can return more than one person, and the first result may belong to another county or custody system.

Read Charlton VINE Status Fields
A result may show custody status, a location, and available event or notification information. If release data remains active, the record may show released or no longer in custody. VINE does not promise to keep every historical event available forever. The lack of an old result does not prove that no booking or release occurred.

A transfer is not freedom from custody. Charlton County Jail may release a person to GDC, USMS, or ICE. VINE can show a local custody change while another system still holds the person. Always identify the receiving authority before calling the event a community release.
Register Georgia Release Alerts
After opening a matching in-custody record, select “Get Notified” or the equivalent option. Available methods may include phone, email, text, app, or TTY. Choose the channels offered in that record and complete the registration. Contact information should be kept current so an alert can reach the intended recipient.
Georgia VINE mechanics documented by a Georgia local VINE source explain the four-digit PIN used for phone notifications. The user creates the PIN during registration. When VINE calls, entering it confirms that the right person received the alert and stops repeated calls. The PIN is for notification receipt, not for accessing a court or jail record.

VINE Limits Across Custody Systems
Charlton County contains several custody paths that should not be blended. The county jail is operated by the sheriff. GDC manages state prison records. D. Ray James in Folkston is an ICE client facility, not the Charlton County Jail. BOP covers sentenced federal prisoners, while USMS may hold pretrial prisoners in many kinds of facilities.
Use the BOP Inmate Locator for a federal prisoner and the ICE locator for a person in immigration custody. VINE is not the permanent archive for those federal systems. A person missing from Georgia VINE may be in a federal or immigration record, or may no longer have an active VINE entry. The sheriff cannot confirm an ICE release merely because D. Ray James is in Charlton County.
Offender registries are also separate. The GBI and Charlton OffenderWatch systems apply only to people with a qualifying registration duty. They are not general release lists. A registry result may persist after custody because registration is a different legal status.
Note: Choose the authority that holds the person, since geographic location alone does not identify the correct release system.
Confirm a Charlton Release
After a VINE alert, call the Charlton County Sheriff's Office at 912-496-7321 for a local jail event. Ask whether custody ended, the release date and time, the release type, and whether the person transferred to another authority. If phone confirmation is limited or a document is needed, use the sheriff's Freedom of Information/Open Records request channel for the booking sheet and release entry.
Check the Charlton court when a bond, warrant, dismissal, sentence, or revocation order explains the exit. The Clerk of Superior, State and Juvenile Courts handles those records, while Probate/Magistrate Court has its own matters. For GDC release, use the state offender search and request GDC records. For parole, use the Board and DCS.

When Charlton VINE Has No Result
No result can have several explanations. The spelling or identifier may not match. The agency feed may not contain the record. The person may be in GDC, federal, immigration, or another county custody. A past release may also have aged out of active VINE availability. Silence is not proof that the person was never booked or has been released.
For a Charlton County Jail event, call the sheriff and ask a narrow custody question. If documentation is needed, request the booking sheet and release entry through administration's Freedom of Information/Open Records channel. Check the court docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, warrant, or revocation action that explains why custody changed. That chain is especially important in Charlton because no official recent-release feed was found.
For state prison, search GDC by name, description, state ID, or case number. For future parole review, use TPM. For someone already released to parole, use the parolee search and DCS Waycross. BOP, USMS, and ICE each remain separate. A VINE miss should lead to the most likely record owner, not to random commercial pages.
Save the search date and the exact inputs used. If the agency later confirms release, preserve the release type as well as the date. Bond, sentence expiration, court order, transfer, and detainer release do not mean the same thing, even when each ends one custody record.
Keep Georgia VINE Alerts Current
A notification works only while the contact method and watched record remain valid. Review registration confirmation, retain the phone PIN, and update contact information through the options the service provides. If an expected alert does not arrive, check the Georgia VINE record and contact the holding agency. Do not delay an urgent safety or court step while waiting for an automated message.
Alerts should also be read for event type. Release, transfer, escape, and capture are different changes. A transfer alert may mean continued custody at another facility. A release alert may still require checking for another hold. Write down the event time and agency, then request the official record if the exact legal reason matters.
Georgia's statewide system is a useful access layer, especially where Charlton publishes no release feed. Its value comes from fast notice, not permanent retention. The sheriff's release entry, GDC record, federal locator, or ICE record remains the durable source for the custody system involved.
