Charlton Released Mugshot Records
A booking photograph records appearance during an arrest-processing event. Release from Charlton County Jail does not by itself erase that event, yet the image should not be read as proof of guilt. A person may have bonded out while the case remained open, received time served, had charges dismissed, moved to another custody system, or obtained a later court result that changed public access. The release record and court docket provide context that the image alone cannot supply.
Georgia's Open Records Act provides the request framework, subject to exemptions and specific limits. Booking photographs also have their own disclosure rule. O.C.G.A. 35-1-19 restricts a law-enforcement agency from providing a booking image when it may be posted where removal requires payment or other consideration. The Attorney General's law-enforcement guide explains that a requester must give a written affirmation about that use.
Charlton County's lack of a public photo feed makes the official records request the core county channel. The image may be released, withheld, or redacted under the law and facts of the request. Ask for one named booking and provide a date or booking detail. That helps the sheriff locate the right photograph and avoids mixing people with the same name.
Where Charlton Release Photos Appear
There is no one Charlton County released-inmate mugshot archive. The right path depends on whether the image came from the county jail, GDC, or a case-specific publication. Georgia VINE is useful for custody status and notifications, but it is not a booking-photo source. A federal or immigration detainee also follows a different record path from a county arrestee.
| Channel | Has a photo? | How to access |
|---|---|---|
| Charlton sheriff website or release feed | No official gallery or feed found | Use sheriff contact and records channels |
| Charlton sheriff records request | Possible for a named booking | Request the specific booking photograph with the required affirmation |
| GDC offender search | Yes, if available in a state record | Search a state-prison offender and verify identity |
| Georgia VINE | Not a mugshot channel | Use only for custody status and alerts |
| Agency or news report | Sometimes, for one case | Read the report and confirm the result with official records |
| Commercial republisher | May show an old image | Do not treat it as official or current |
The GDC Find an Offender page states that photographs display automatically when available. That source covers people in the state prison system. It does not create a county jail photo for someone who only bonded out in Folkston. Match the GDC ID, case, description, and available personal details before relying on the image.
Federal custody is another separate channel. The U.S. Marshals Service generally does not release prisoner mugshots because of its privacy policy, and a BOP or ICE custody record is not a Charlton County Jail booking image. When a person was held at D. Ray James in Folkston, use the federal or immigration record owner rather than assuming the Charlton sheriff made the photo.
The Charlton County 24-Hour Release List explains the request-first fallback for recent county releases because no official feed or photo list was found.
Note: A released person may have left the county roster even while the booking sheet and photo remain with the sheriff's records function.
Request a Charlton Booking Photo
The Charlton County Sheriff's Office website identifies administration as the contact point for Freedom of Information requests and links a Jotform option. Georgia local agencies respond under the Georgia Open Records Act, so the request can be called a Freedom of Information/Open Records request without suggesting that federal FOIA governs the sheriff. The office lists 1548 Third Street, Folkston, GA 31537, phone 912-496-7321, and fax 912-496-6712.
Request the image tied to one booking. Include the full name, date of birth if known, approximate booking date, charge or case number, and booking number if available. Ask for the booking sheet and release entry when those records are also needed to confirm that the person left custody. Do not ask the sheriff to interpret the case. A narrow request seeks records that already exist.
- Confirm that the booking occurred at Charlton County Jail rather than GDC, BOP, USMS, or D. Ray James ICE custody.
- Open the official Charlton County Sheriff's Office request channel or contact administration.
- Identify the person and booking with a date, number, charge, or case detail.
- Ask for the specific booking photograph and include the written affirmation required by Georgia booking-photo law.
- Request a time and cost estimate before production if the records are not immediately available.
- Compare the image and release entry with the court disposition when the case outcome matters.
Georgia open-records guidance calls for a response within three business days when the request arrives during normal hours. If records exist but cannot be produced at once, the response should describe them and provide timing and cost information. Charlton County publishes no local booking-photo fee schedule in the reviewed official pages. Ask for an estimate rather than assuming a charge.
Charlton Mugshot Disclosure Rules
Georgia's booking-photo rule targets a specific publication practice. The sheriff may not provide an image to a requester when it may be placed in a publication or on a website that charges the person to remove it. The written affirmation gives the agency a record of the requester's stated use. It does not mean every booking photograph must be released in every case. Other legal limits, redactions, and record restrictions can still apply.
The Georgia Attorney General law-enforcement guide describes this affirmation requirement. For a clean request, state that the image will not be placed in a publication or on a website that charges for removal or deletion. Keep the request purpose-neutral and tied to the named booking. If the office denies or narrows the request, ask it to identify the legal basis.
Georgia commonly uses the term record restriction. A restricted or sealed court file may change what the public can see, and juvenile records have special limits. Neither restriction nor successful case completion should be assumed to erase every sheriff, GDC, or published copy automatically. The Charlton clerk is the source for the current court posture.
Charlton Release News Is Case-Specific
Local release facts sometimes appear in an agency release rather than a roster. The GBI's June 27, 2025 Charlton County jailor release says the person was booked into Charlton County Jail and had since been released on bond. That is a concrete official example of release confirmation outside a standing jail feed. It is not a searchable list of everyone released.
The matching successful manifest image below captures that GBI source.
The report shows why a case-specific source can support one release fact while offering no broad Charlton County mugshot archive.
News outlets and agency releases may include an arrest photograph, scene image, or official portrait. Identify which kind of image appears. Then confirm the booking and release through the sheriff and the disposition through the court. Older reports can remain online after charges, custody, or public-record access changes.
Note: A report that someone was released on bond confirms a custody exit, not the final result of the criminal case.
Charlton Mugshot Removal and Context
The Georgia Attorney General's mugshot websites consumer page explains a separate commercial-site removal rule under O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.5. It identifies circumstances in which a commercial site must remove an individual's mugshot without charge within 30 days of a written request. That consumer remedy is not the same as ordering the Charlton sheriff, GDC, or a court to erase an official public record.
Do not pay a removal service merely because it claims control over an image. Follow the Attorney General's stated process for the publisher involved, preserve the written request, and document why a listed statutory circumstance applies. No commercial mugshot publisher is linked here. Such pages can be stale, lack the final disposition, or keep a photo detached from the release record.
For an official source, ask the source about its correction or restriction process. Court restriction questions go to the clerk. Sheriff record questions go to the Charlton records function. GDC controls its offender record and available state photo. The Charlton County released inmate record path helps pair the image with release type and court status.
